AC4 Project

I wanted to build an amp based upon the AC4. The EF86 front end combined with a single-ended EL84 output stage has to be a great combination for a low wattage all valve amp, ideal for recording or practice. The design for the amp itself will differ somewhat from the original JMI AC4 in that it will have reverb, and improved tone control circuitry but no tremolo section. It also has a ten inch Celestion loudspeaker as opposed to the original eight inch Elac model.

While designing the new circuit and layout, I decided to build the amp cabinet first. It is constructed from 18mm birch plywood, with biscuit jointed corners. Probably a little over the top in terms of construction, and very heavy.

(The cabinet alone weighs over twenty pounds!).

Watch this space for news on the progress of the project.
